A consortium of three UAE companies has paid 1.6 billion Swiss francs (Dh4.79bn) to acquire Zurich-based SR Technics, a provider of technical aircraft support, the companies announced yesterday. Emirates, the second largest and most profitable Arab carrier, is set to topple Saudi Arabian Airlines to become the biggest airline in the Middle East by 2010. Emirates airline expanded its routes to China yesterday with the launch of daily non-stop flights to Beijing. Emirates, the most profitable Arab airline, raised its fuel surcharge for the third time in six months, effective last Monday, amid growing concerns over high fuel prices.
