Two new innovative additions that will enhance the operation of the Thuraya mobile phone will be available shortly. While the vehicular docking adapter, VAD, will provide for recharging and in-vehicle operation, the home docking unit, (Hodu), will enable use of the phone indoors in remote areas. Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company has awarded the distribution and logistics contract to two companies of the Dubai-based Rais Hassan Saadi Group, preparing for its mobile telephone launch expected in June this year. After the successful soft launch last week, Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Co (Thuraya) is launching full commercial services in mid-June with nearly 40,000 Thuraya mobile phones going live worldwide, a top company official said. The Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Co has secured the GMPCS-MoU mark approval from the International Telecommunications Union, ITU, for its handheld terminals.
