Emirates SkyCargo is suffering revenue losses of up to US$2 million (Dh7.34m) a day with around 4,000 tonnes of Europe-bound cargo being delayed. Etihad Airways flight cancellations remain in place to destinations in Europe and the UK until further notice, as airports remain closed due to the spread of volcanic ash. Emirates airlines issued yesterday the following statement: Emirates is very closely monitoring the evolving airspace situation across Europe, going into a fifth day of cancellations caused by volcanic ash clouds emanating from Iceland. The ongoing volcanic ash disruption has already cost Emirates US$50 million, the airline has confirmed. Emirates is losing revenue from 18,000 passengers a day as airspace across the UK and much of Europe remains closed. Around 30 Emirates aircraft are grounded - equivalent to one fifth of the fleet. Just one week after the double announcement of flights to Assiut, Egypt and Istanbul, Turkey, flydubai, has done it again with another double of new routes for May. GCAA announces growth of nearly 12% in total air movements in UAE

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced yesterday a growth of nearly 12% in the total air movements in UAE airspace during the first quarter of 2010. Etihad Crystal Cargo, a division of Etihad Airways, has announced it will launch a weekly service from its hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport to N'djamena, the capital of the Republic of Chad.
