SkyCargo posts Dh1.1b revenue

Emirates SkyCargo on Tuesday said it has achieved a total revenue of Dhs1.1 billion ($287.3 million), up 25.1 per cent in the financial year 2000-2001. The company lifted 335,194 tonnes cargo which is an increase of 24.2 per cent compared with 1999-2000, a press statement said. Passenger movement at Dubai International Airport in the first quarter of 2001 registered at 3.5 million, a growth of 15.6 per cent over the same period last year. January saw the highest movement of passengers with a growth of 21 per cent over the same period last year. February and March showed 13.4 per cent and 12.4 per cent growth. Al Ain International Airport is carrying out a Dh70 million renovation and expansion project to meet the increase in passenger and airline traffic. The project will be completed in 18 months. The next phase of the Dubai International Airport will cost an overall Dh5 billion (US$1.4 billion), and will include a mega underground cargo terminal as well as a new concourse exclusively for Emirates airline passengers. The initiative of the Ras Al Khaimah Airport to levy a charge on aircraft using the airport to support its environment programme has been well received. Air cargo operations in the UAE have more than doubled in the last decade, touching 792,000 tonnes in 2000 against 240,000 tonnes in 1990, according to a Emirates Industrial Bank (EBI) report. DNATA, and Emirates Group division has made a bid for the BOT tender of the new airport at Sharm El Sheikh, the Egyptian Red Sea resort, according to a senior DNATA official. The new terminal is part of the Egyptian government's plan to privatise airports and ports, said Khaled Al Kamda, Emirates' head of corporate development. DDF registers record sales in January

The Dubai Duty Free, DDF, has registered record sales for January. According to an official release issued on Sunday, total sales for January was dh80.5 million. It surpassed the previous best of Dh76.6 million logged in December 2000. Expansion of DCV Phase II complete

Dubai Cargo Village (DCV) announced on Tuesday the completion of the second phase of its expansion programme at a total investment of Dhs100 million. After completion of phase 2 of the expansion DCV's handling capacity is 750,000 tonnes per annum. Dubai International Airport has announced that passenger traffic has grown by 15.5 per cent during 2000.
