Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) has announced that its migration to the Next Generation Network (NGN) has commenced, with 10 per cent of the network NGN-ready by the end of 2006. UAE telecom consumers can expect lower calling rates in the next four years, according to the forecast by BIS Shrapnel, an Australia-based provider of research, analysis and forecasting services. In its report Cellular Forecast Report up to 2010, BIS Shrapnel predicts that the airtime rate in the UAE will fall by almost 50 per cent by 2010. Emirates Telecommunications Corporation - Etisalat - has said its revenues for the consolidated nine months increased to Dh11.815 billion, a rise of 26% compared to same period last year. Calling a cell phone in the UAE without a prefix will soon result in dead air. According to a Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), a copy of which obtained by Gulf News, beginning 15 December, anyone calling a mobile number will have to dial the recipient's prefix. Dubai Holding has said it has successfully closed its syndication of a US$2.25 billion (Dh8.2bn) loan for financing its 35 per cent stake in Tunisie Telecom.
