A surge in oil prices allied with higher crude production boosted the UAE's exports to an all time high of more than US$231 billion (Dh848.5bn) in 2008 and turn it into the 19th largest exporter in the world, according to official figures. A sharp rise in public and private investment boosted the UAE's real non-oil sector by around 3.9 per cent in 2008 despite a slowdown in the second half because of the global fiscal distress, official figures showed yesterday. Muscat - The United Arab Emirates retained its position as the biggest destination for Omani re-exports for the third consecutive year in 2008, the Central Bank of Oman said in its newly released annual report for the year.
