UAE ports are expecting record performances this year as imports for construction materials, foodstuffs and cars flood in on the back of the region's economic boom. Global port operator DP World yesterday announced strong results from its portfolio of 44 marine terminals that were operational in the six months to 30 June 2008. The Dubai-based Port operator said its profits after tax from continuing operations for the six month period more than doubled to US$287 million (US$129 million). The cost of shipping a container from Dubai to key destinations around the world has almost doubled in the past 12 months – sparking fears that rates could reach alarming levels.
