UAE mobile phone users at record high

Nearly 212,000 new mobile phone users joined the UAE market in January to boost the total number of GSM subscribers to a record high of around 11.9 million at the end of January, official data showed on Tuesday. UAE service providers attracted 801,000 new mobile phone users in 2011 to boost the total number of GSM subscribers to 11,727 at the end of the year, one of the biggest increases in the country's telecom history. Shares in du slumped the most in seven weeks yesterday after the company announced it was to pay an increased royalty fee to the UAE Government.
