As the prime contractor and main shipbuilder, Abu Dhabi Ship Building Co, ADSB, will design and build six new naval vessels for the UAE Navy's Baynunah project, according to a company statement. Most participants in the International Defence Exhibition and conference (IDEX2001) in Abu Dhabi emptied their stands and promised a bigger attendance in 2003. Lockheed to deliver F-16s in 2004

The US will start delivering F-16 jet fighters to the UAE in 2004 and the acquisition will largely bolster the UAE Air Force, manufacturers of the aircraft said at Idex2001. UAE to evaluate Bofors naval guns

Swedish armsmaker Bofors will bring its 40Mk3 and 57Mk3 naval guns to the UAE Navy for evaluation tests, a senior official said. UAE-Jordan venture to produce tactical vehicles

The UAE has entered into a joint venture with Jordan to produce the Tiger, a new tactical defence vehicle, in Jordan. Investments will be US$25-US$40 million. Production is expected to begin shortly and about 1,500 vehicles will be produced in the next two to three years.
