The slogan of the International Union against Cancer this year is: "If you love someone, tell them they stink".

The World Health Organisation (Who) believes tobacco is the single largest preventable cause of cancer in the world today. Smoking causes 80 per cent of all lung cancer deaths, including deaths from cancer of the oral cavity, larynx, oesophagus and stomach.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has licensed a doctor to conduct stem cell transplant surgeries in the UAE for the first time.

Dubai Healthcare Authority (DHA), Active-M Group and Royal Philips Electronics, yesterday announced a joint venture to develop a framework for delivering and marketing a Continuous Medical Education (CME) academy.

Customers asked to return affected Tylenol Posted on 19/01/2010
Consumers who have bought over-the-counter pain relief drug Tylenol have been asked to return the medicine, affected by traces of a particular chemical which gives it a ‘mouldy odour'.
It has also been reported to have caused ‘non-serious' sickness in people in the US, to the respective pharmacy and claim a safer replacement.

Khalifa issues federal anti-tobacco law Posted on 07/01/2010
President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued federal law no 15 of 2009 banning import of tobacco and its by-products into the country unless specific standard requirements accredited in the UAE are met.
Those conditions include posting of clear word and image warnings on the box and a ban on all kinds of advertisements, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products.

SKMC surgeons perform first state-of-the-art awake brain surgery in the Gulf region Posted on 29/12/2009
A multi-disciplinary team at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) managed by Cleveland Clinic recently performed the first awake brain open surgery in the gulf region.
