Zayed issues law on endangered species

posted on 24/10/2002: 2003 views

President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan issued today a federal law on regulations and control of international trade on endangered plant and animal species. The legislation, comprising 40 articles and three addenda, defines fauna and flora species facing extinction. It will take effect in six months following its promulgation in the official Gazette. The move underlines UAE's commitment to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES) which it recently joined. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
