UAE, Saudi and Egyptian volunteer doctors from the Zayed Giving Initiative, performed 35 heart valve surgeries under an Emirati-Egyptian medical volunteer programme, in co-operation with the Saudi- German Hospital, Ain Shams University, Dar Al Ber Society and the Emirates Volunteer Centre, as a part of the "Heart to Heart International Humanity" campaign.

The volunteer medical programme was implemented under the framework of joint work between UAE and Egyptian health, humanitarian and volunteer organisations, as a part of an annual volunteer programme that aims to help thousands of children and elderly people in different villages and regions around Egypt.

The programme highlights the depth of relations between the UAE and Egypt, and promotes joint volunteer co-operation between doctors from both countries and enables them to treat serious cases. It also helps to provide treatment for patients through the model of harmonious human giving, based on the approach that was established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and continued by the UAE's President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The medical team of volunteers successfully performed 35 heart valve surgeries under the "Valve for Life" programme, and in compliance with the declaration by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for 2017 to be the "Year of Giving", said Dr. Reem Othman, Humanitarian Work Ambassador.

Egyptian surgeon Prof. Ahmed Al Kerdany, Head of Cardiac Surgeries Department in Ain Shams University Hospital, stressed the importance of adopting voluntary initiatives, and enabling Egyptian and UAE doctors to work together to serve vulnerable people.

He praised the efforts of the Zayed Giving Initiative and the Saudi-German Hospital for their successful partnerships with public and private sector institutions in Egypt and the UAE, to provide free medical care for children and elderly patients through the use of UAE mobile field hospitals. These hospitals include a unit for diagnosis and treatment, and a subspecialties device equipped with an ECG and cardiac ultrasound imaging, as well as a lab and a mobile pharmacy that provides free medicine. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://wam.ae/en/details/1395302597712
