The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, MoFAIC, has called on the international community to step up efforts against terrorist organisations that target humanitarian projects meant for alleviating the suffering of civilians affected by conflicts and wars.
In a statement, the ministry said that the terrorist attack in Afghanistan that claimed the lives of five UAE nationals and injured others, "is condemned by all religions".
"The attack will not deter the UAE from continuing its efforts to fight terrorists, who targeted a meeting that was discussing a better future for Kandahar," it added.
The UAE provides education opportunities, upgrades the quality of life, and eases the suffering of Afghans caused by the criminal organisations that have only brought destruction to Afghanistan.
The Emirati martyrs who had been working at the UAE Embassy in Kabul were identified as Mohammed Ali Zainal Bastaki, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary; Abdullah Mohammed Essa Obaid Al Kaabi, third secretary; Ahmed Rashid Salem Ali Mazrouei, advisor; Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Tunaiji, adviser, and Abdul Hamid Sultan Abdullah Ibrahim Al Hammadi, advisor.
"This blatant crime targeted the humanitarian work carried out by the UAE nationals in Afghanistan," the MoFAIC said, stressing that the UAE will work with sisterly and friendly countries to fight this terrorism.
Juma Mohammed Abdullah Al Kaabi, UAE Ambassador to Afghanistan and the accompanying delegation visited the headquarters of the Kandahar governor, which was targeted in the bombing. They were on a humanitarian mission to lay the foundation stone for Dar Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and sign an agreement on the scholarships with Kardan University. Their programme also included the laying of foundation stone for the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Institute for technical education in Kabul, funded by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
The ministry said that the martyrs had long been working with the resident mission in Afghanistan, and were overseeing and managing the UAE programme to support the people of Afghanistan. They had spent years there to meet the needs of the Afghan people and provide them with assistance, especially in the field of education.
Since 2009, the UAE has contributed to improving the living conditions of the Afghan people in different sectors, most notably education, primary education, health, water, care of orphans, as well as relief aid, and other vital sectors that affect their daily lives. – Emirates News Agency, WAM -http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395305787876.html
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Afghan President stress need to double international efforts to counter terrorism
ABU DHABI, 11th January, 2017 (WAM) -- Treacherous terrorist acts cannot undermine the resolve and determination of the UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to continue to promote goodness, create hope and extend a helping hand to states and people in need, stressed His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
He made the statement yesterday in a phone call from Ashraf Ghani, President of Afghanistan.
The duo stressed the importance of doubling international efforts to counter terrorism and extremist organisations jeopardising international security and peace, and seeking to undermine the stability of countries and development and construction efforts in these countries while killing innocent people.
"The forces of evil behind this cowardly terrorist attack wish that the journey of construction, development and goodness would not make progress in Afghanistan and would not like to see joy, smiles and a bright life for the Afghan people. But with God's help, we will continue to carry out humanitarian and development projects and will always be determined to spread hope, optimism and philanthropy everywhere we have presence. This is our firm approach and our unwavering belief that we commit ourselves to," the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince said.
The UAE, led by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa, and the loyal Emirati people will continue to deliver their humanitarian commitments, he added.
"Great achievements and sacrifices made by Emiratis are a source of strong will and determination to defeat the forces of darkness and uproot the sources of evil," His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed said.
President Ghani expressed his sincere condolences on the martyrdom of a number of Emiratis who were killed in a terrorist attack in Kandahar, Afghanistan, while overseeing humanitarian, developmental and educational projects. He wished a speedy recovery for those injured in the attack.
