Dubai Studio City is all set to have the largest sound stage in the region when it is completed, the project's director said yesterday. Jamal Al Sharif said the first part of the move, which will see two separate sound stages each covering 2,340 square metres, will be ready during the first quarter of next year.
The two stages will be connected by large doors, which can then be opened to create 4,645sq m of sound stage. He said the Location Approval Services Department at Studio City will be a one stop-shop for all firms as it will provide everything needed for a quality production.
Dr Amina Al Rustamani, Executive Director of Media for Tecom Investments, who will run the development said a number of production houses from Hollywood, Bollywood and across the Arab World have already shown great interest in the ambitious project.
"In 2006, Dubai Studio City provided location approval services to 28 film productions. More than 25 companies from Egypt, Lebanon, India and the United States have been licensed in 2006 to join the Studio City,” she added.
Aimed at attracting big budget productions from abroad, as well as supporting the fledgling local film industry, Dubai Studio City will have production companies, support services for production and post-production facilities, alongside animation studios, costume design and stage design facilities. It will also house a film and television academy, entertainment and retail spaces, hotels and residential facilities for the workers. (Emirates Today)
