Sheikha Fatima: Women are complete partners in the development process
posted on 24/05/2007

Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairperson of Arab Women's Organization, has stressed that the woman is a full partner in the development process. She has highly appreciated the historical decision of H.H. President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to appoint eight women in the National Council, pointing out that this decision is the biggest evidence of his conviction of the role played by a woman.

"The UAE president is steering the country wheel as a skilled captain who enjoys all leadership constituents. He follows the route of his father (the founder of the UAE), efficiently and confidently, for Late Sheikh Zayed was the first supporter for woman, the seeds of his support, planted three decades ago, are currently harvested by the UAE woman." This was said by Sheikha Fatima during the comprehensive dialogue dedicated for the summit which is published in a special issue on the occasion of first ladies Senior Council meeting for Arab Women's Organization held under her presidency in Abu Dhabi on this May 27th.

Her Highness indicated that the Organization's plans and strategies are set up based on deliberate, scientific and methodological bases that suit our reality and go in line with our ambitions to enhance the Arab woman.

The organization's Chairperson honoured by presiding this term said, the third term from 2007 till 2009, will complete the march of efforts launched through the two previous terms under the presidency of Queen Rania Al-Abdullah followed by H.H. Sheikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim.

H.H. Sheikha Fatima pointed out that the two pervious terms symbolized a phase of building, establishing and introducing suitable mechanisms to achieve the objectives of the organization, while the current term will represent the action start-off phase. Her Highness called upon the Arab women everywhere to gather around the organization and to have the base and the peak joined together.

All first ladies of the Arab countries have taken an important step in this direction and their hands are extended to all Arab women who should react with this initiative that seeks to correct the false image and to show the bright models and splendid achievements achieved by the Arab woman. Whereas 15 countries are members in the organization, H.H. Sheikha Fatima has invited the remaining Arab countries to promptly join the organization so that the vision is completed and objectives are realized. Her Highness seized this opportunity to address an open letter to the media (printed, audio and video, especially space channels) to reconsider their methods of dealing with women issues.

Since its establishment, the organization has set its sights on certain objectives based on the recognition of the importance of women's solidarity across the Arab countries, and building awareness on the issues of Arab women from different economic, social, cultural, legal and media aspects in addition to the inclusion of women issues as priorities within the plans and policies of comprehensive development.
