Sharjah to get 10 more public parks posted on 28/08/2007
Sharjah is set to get 10 more public parks as part of a Dh15 million project to revamp the city's parks, Sharjah Municipality announced on Sunday. The project will also see the parks being used as venues for social events. Launched under the guidance of Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah HH Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the project aims at developing public park facilities and services, park expansions and landscape development, The Gulf Today reported.
Park improvements will also be made on lighting, public toilets and designated prayer rooms for men and women, according to General Manager of Sharjah Municipality Dr Salah Al Hajj, who commented that the project showed the Municipality's conviction about the social importance of public parks."We consider public parks an important aspect of family entertainment.
With our newly improved and more convenient facilities, we want to transform our parks into places of social activities. In addition to its existing 35 parks, Sharjah Municipality is working to add 10 new parks in different areas of the city, which will be fully equipped and designed to accommodate families and children." Though the locations of the new parks are yet to be announced, the official said that improvements had already been made on 23 of the existing parks. These parks are now equipped with offices for park attendants, ladies' and guards' rooms, ladies' prayer rooms, cafeterias, toilets and electricity rooms.
The renovated parks are located in Al Sufaia, Al Mahatta, Al Khaledya, Al Suwaihat, Al Ghafia, Al Faihaa, Al Qadesia, Al Nasreia, Abu Shaghara, Dasman, Semnan, Maisaloun, Al Tarafana, Al Refa'a, Al Qaraen, Al Darari, Al Hezam, Al Akhdar, Al Hamria, Al Falaj, Al Ramtha and Al Azra areas.
The parks in Al Ghobaiba, Al Mansoura, Al Fisht, Sharquan, Almouwafja, Al Quoz, Al Nid, Al Badih, Alyash, Al Nahda, Al Abar and Al Khozamiyah will also see a facelift as part of the project.
Starting this Ramadan, the parks in Sharjah will become the venues for many public functions. Hajj said that the parks would be used as a platform for educational and entertainment events for the public. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
