The Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority, EPAA, will take part in the World Future Energy Summit, WFES, to be held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 16th to 19th January.

EPAA plays a key role in the conservation of environment and highlights its efforts to preserve natural resources and conserve wildlife through its centres and nature reserves.

The EPAA pavilion in the summit will shed light on the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad AL Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, regarding the conservation of environmental resources and support for sustainable development. It will also highlight the emirate's role in environmental protection and raising awareness about the laws and regulations of EPAA among the community members.

During the summit, EPAA will showcase its Al Hefaiyah Mountain Conservation Centre, its role, tasks and objectives, and will distribute educational booklets to visitors and participants.

"We will have a distinct pavilion, attractive and innovative, which will reflect our eagerness to employ the best international technologies and standards to protect the environment. In the pavilion, the focus will be on Al Hefaiyah Mountain Conservation Centre, which won the Middle East Architect Award in 2016 as the best learning centre," said Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Sharjah EPAA.

Al Suwaidi stressed the importance of EPAA's participation in the summit, one of the key global events in clean technology and renewable energy space. It will also provide an opportunity to interact with global agencies, authorities, organisations and experts to exchange views, information and experience regarding environment and its conservation, the chairperson added.

The Sharjah Ruler had opened Al Hefaiyah Mountain Conservation Centre in Kalba in March 2016. It is one of the key projects of EPAA and aims to protect the environment and preserve the biodiversity of the mountainous region.

Al Hefaiyah is home to 30 animal species, all of which are threatened species and on the Red List. These include Arabian ibex, wadi racer (platyceps rhodorachis), gazella gazella, lynx, Arabian tiger, hyaena hyaena, white-tailed mongoose, golden spiny mouse (acomys russatus), lepus capensis and other species. – Emirates News Agency, WAM -http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395305879379.html
