The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, SEWA, has launched a campaign among its employees during the month of Ramadan to donate Zakat money to help refugees and vulnerable people in Syria, Iraq and Palestine.

The campaign is a response to a call from the Sharjah-based Big Heart Foundation, a global humanitarian foundation that aims to help refugees and vulnerable people around the world, to collect Zakat donations from individuals and institutions in the UAE, to support refugees, especially women and children.

Dr. Eng. Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of SEWA, stressed that the launch of this campaign is part of the authority's strategy to support humanitarian initiatives and develop social responsibility, co-operation and noble human values. This programme is also one of the main initiatives to be launched in the Year of Giving, he added.

He praised the efforts of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, a prominent supporter of refugee children at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, through her humanitarian initiatives and by launching the Big Heart Foundation, to help refugees and vulnerable people in Syria, Iraq and Palestine and fulfil her humanitarian role, providing them with their basic needs. He highlighted that many people and institutions have responded to the initiative, as it is considered an influential humanitarian programme.

He stressed that the campaign will include promotions for donating Zakat money in all client centres and through the authority's social media accounts, as well as promoting the campaign among its employees, and collecting and sending donations to the Big Heart Foundation through its bank account in Sharjah Islamic Bank.

The campaign is expected to achieve positive results and collect substantial amounts of money, which will contribute to reducing the suffering of refugees. http://wam.ae/en/details/1395302617515
