The number of women-only taxis in Dubai is to double because of growing demand.
The cabs known as Pink Taxis were introduced earlier this year by the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) to carry women, children and families.
"More of the taxis will be available in the coming weeks and we are currently recruiting female drivers, said Obaid Al Mulla, CEO of the RTA's Public Transport Agency.
"We want to cater to the increasing demand for the service as part of our efforts to improve transport. The new female recruits will undergo training in driving, etiquette, customer service and emergency procedures. And they will be taught the locations of key government buildings and tourist and leisure destinations.
At present 50 Pink Taxis operate across the emirate.
Before their introduction female-only taxis were only available only at Dubai airport.
The taxis have pink roofs, seats and interiors to give the vehicles a feminine look and make them easily identifiable. (Emirates Today)
