General H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces arrived in Baghdad yesterday evening and was received at the airport by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki and a number of Iraqi officials.
Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Under Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court and Abdullah Al Shihi, UAE Ambassador to Iraq.
Sheikh Mohammed held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki. During the meeting, attended by Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Al Maliki and Sheikh Mohammed reviewed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them, as well as issues of mutual interest.
Upon arrival in Baghdad, Sheikh Mohammed described UAE's relations with Iraq as "excellent".
"We look forward to develop our relations with Iraq through exchange of visits by officials of the two countries," Sheikh Mohammed said.
He noted that the two-way trade between the two countries was already growing and that more than 100,000 Iraqis currently live in the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed said that the presence of UAE ambassador in Baghdad would further boost relations between the two countries.
Al Maliki described Sheikh Mohammed's visit to Baghdad as "a great boost to the bilateral relations, heading to be even stronger in all fields." Sheikh Mohammed left following a short visit to Iraq.
