Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Deputy Chairman of the Environmental Research and Wildlife Development Agency, ERWDA, yesterday re-iterated that the UAE, under the leadership of President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, is exerting its efforts to strengthen Arab joint action in various fields in order to confront the challenges facing the Arab nation.

In a speech read on his behalf by Mohammed Ahmed Al Bawardi, ERWDA member, on the opening of the first regional Arab media forum to prepare for the third earth summit on sustainable development, which will take place in South Africa next month, Sheikh Hamdan said that the UAE had prepared a national report which will be presented at the the Johannesburg Summit.

He added that the report focuses on elements of achieving a sustainable development in social, economic and environmental fields. He added that the UAE delegation at the world's summit on Sustainable Development will also present the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Collection Initiative (AGEDI), which aims at narrowing the gap between developed and developing countries in environment data collection. Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the major efforts exerted by the UAE in the development of environment and thanked various international environmental organisations for participating in organising this forum.
