The first phase of Tadweer, the region's largest Material Recovery Facility, was officially inaugurated for operation Wednesday by Mr. Hussain Lootah, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality. The Dubai Municipality also announced that an agreement has been signed with Tadweer, wherein an amount of 4000 ton/day of Municipal Solid Waste will be treated at the plant.

Tadweer, the region's first fully automated solid waste sorting and recycling unit, begins its operations with the first of three scheduled lines, located at Warsan. The other two lines will be operational by year end and will address the needs of other areas of Dubai.

The Project is an accomplishment for the efforts of Dubai Municipality in planning the strategies, maintaining the environmental laws and the application of effective measures to confine the environmental pollution strengthening the leading role Dubai plays in the environmental regional field.

Plans in the pipeline, following the launch, include the initiation of full scale operations later in the year, in addition to new services, regional expansion and increasing community participation through fun and thought provoking campaigns and promotions. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
