The officials from the Interior Ministry and the Abu Dhabi Police Directorate held a meeting yesterday with the Chairperson of the Board of directors of shelter homes set up for the victims of the human trafficking to discuss cooperation in the related field The meeting held at the Diwan of Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Red Crescent Authority HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan praised the efforts of UAE to put an end to this phenomenon through stringent legislations and other measures.
Attending the meeting, the Deputy Commander General of Abu Dhabi Police Maj.General Obeid Al Heiri Salem Al Katbi said that UAE is among the fore runners to strive to eradicate this crime and uphold the human dignity.
The meeting made special mention of the recent ordinances of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed to set up shelter homes at various parts of the country to protect women and children who became victims of this inhuman crime.
These centres serve as safe havens for the victims, where they are provided medical care, counselling and social support.
Attending the meeting, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Shelter homes Sana' Darwish Al-Ketbi hailed the role of the Interior Ministry in rooting out this type of migratory crimes.
The meeting discussed legislative reforms to introduce stringent measures which will act as effective deterrent against this transnational crime.
The UAE's National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) headed by Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs is implementing a strategy based on four main pillars, which include strengthening legislation, enforcing laws and training law enforcement officials, providing support and protection to the victims and promoting bilateral and international cooperation in tackling this issue. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
