Abu Dhabi International Airport will offer free Wi-Fi internet accessibility and improved parking facilities from June 1. With this, the capital's airport will join 152 others, including Dubai International Airport, where free Wi-Fi access is available to all users.
As a prelude to the Wi-Fi connectivity being made available, senior official of Abu Dhabi Airports Company (Adac) had been operating a dozen internet kiosks for the past year with users allowed free access for the first 15 minutes. However, an airport statement said, the airport authority took popular demand into consideration to go Wi-Fi. While 152 airports worldwide offer Wi-Fi, 52 per cent of them are based in the US. This makes the facility offered by Abu Dhabi airport a rarity in the region.
For seamless Wi-Fi experience, the airport inherited 12 access points, or transmitters, from the existing telecom system. Nine of this will be active in the duty free area allowing Terminal 1 to go live from June 1. The facility will cover Terminal 1A and 2 shortly. The upcoming Terminal 3 will have built-in Wi-Fi facilities when it gets operational later this year. –The Gulf Today
