The UAE's Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, FANR, yesterday appointed the nation's first Ambassador of Happiness as part of FANR's initiative to support the UAE Government vision to promote happiness as a path to drive better future development of the country.

Meera Al Meheiri, an engineer inspector with FANR, was appointed as Ambassador of Happiness to drive efforts to foster a positive working environment at FANR, enhancing the long-term sustainability of the agency solely responsible for overseeing the UAE's safe, secure and peaceful nuclear activities.

The FANR initiative is in line with the government's recent appointment of Minister of State for Happiness, Ohood Al Roumi, announced by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to nurture an environment in which people create and enjoy their own happiness. FANR will be collaborating closely with Minister Al Roumi to support her efforts to promote happiness throughout the federal government.

Ms. Al Mheiri was recently named as a member of the Emirates Youth Council, under the guidance of newly appointed Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Shamma Al Mazrui, to develop youth-related strategies and identify challenges facing youth in the nation.

Ms. Al Mheiri holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering-Nuclear Engineering Degree from Khalifa University. She previously worked for Khalifa University Dept. of Science and has received training at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. She has taken part in volunteering activities and in organising the UAE's stand in Expo Milan. She is also the UAE's Youth Ambassador to Germany.

FANR also announced additional initiatives to promote workplace happiness, including a week-long set of activities from 20th - 24th March, starting on the United Nations International Day of Happiness. The happiness week programme will feature a variety of staff gatherings with inspirational speakers, staff meetings to generate more happiness initiatives, a casual-dress day and a trivia contest. In addition, FANR's Human Resources Department will be renamed the Happy Resources Department, and it will engage employees with a new approach to ensure FANR's goals to promote workplace happiness are achieved.

"I am proud of these happiness initiatives, as the wellness and satisfaction of every FANR staff member is crucial to our important work and the satisfaction of our customers and partners," said FANR Director General, Christer Viktorsson. "Plus, I am very excited that Meera Al Mheiri will help guide our efforts to enable FANR staff to flourish and to create the positive energy we desire." – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395292459704.html
