Emirates Palace makes good headway into US travel and tourism market
posted on 28/09/2008

General Manager of Emirates Palace Hans Olbertz has revealed the Abu Dhabi iconic property has succeeded in attracting celebrities and stars of the US in the arts, movies and music industry to stay in the hotel and enjoy its premier luxury hospitality.
He announced that the hotel was virtually fully booked for the coming three months due to the busy calendar of a lineup of international film and musical festivals, art exhibitions, concerts and conferences.
Olbertz said he had participated in a series of road shows held in major US Cities with the aim of promoting the Emirates Palace's unique, first class hospitality services to VIPs, celebrities and high profile businessmen.
"These events, which took place in New York, Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles, were graced by President and General Manager of Kempinski Hotels Reto Witwer and have received an overwhelming response. Witwer has presided over talks with a number of leading tourism players in the US,' he indicated.
"The Emirates Palace's strengths were promoted through a series of audiences and gala events hosted by Kempiski in major US cities which drew the creme de la creme of the industry,' Olbertz said.
On the outcome of this plethora of events, he commented that: "The key tourism companies in the US are well aware of the strategic location of the UAE between the East and West, and that flight routes for the US take advantage of stopovers at Abu Dhabi and UAE airports. They are familiar with the advantages and strengths of the infrastructure, stability and serenity of the country as well as the significant tourist and economic advantages and opportunities".
Olbertz explained that leaders of travel and tourism industry in the US had expressed their profound satisfaction at the direct flights run by the national flag carrier - Etihad Airways and the ever-expanding global network which he believed would increase the flow of US visitors into Abu Dhabi and UAE.
"Key players of US travel and tourism market were appraised about the tourism facilities and incentives offered by Abu Dhabi and the potential mega infrastructure projects aimed at luring elite holidaymakers from the US and Europe,' Olbertz said.
He added that "We have briefed the leaders of US travel and tourism market about the world class cultural initiatives launched by Abu Dhabi from the Saadiyat Cultural District, which houses branches of world leading and reputed museums like the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Ferrari theme park at Yas Island to the signature resorts which were being built at Sir Bani Yas and Raha beach."
Olbertz noted that the UAE capital will host the Art Paris Abu Dhabi for modern and contemporary art from November 17 to 21 at the Emirates Palace. Over 3200 works of hundreds of famous painters will be on display. The Emirates Palace also hosted the Islamic Arts exhibition and Picasso Abu Dhabi earlier this year. The latter drew tens of thousands of visitors and art fans from around the region and further.
Abu Dhabi, he said, would be implementing promising projects on arts and music. One of the most interesting events is the Middle East International Film Festival, to be held from October 10-19. In its second year, MEIFF strives to become a centre for filmmakers in the region and internationally to meet and present their films in a city fast becoming the leading cultural centre in the Middle East.
Up to the end of the year, the Emirates Palace will be the venue of choice for major international conferences, forums and art exhibitions. On the occasion of the UAE National Day, the Emirates Palace will play host to an array of Spectacular cultural and official events. On New Year's Eve, the Palace will be illuminated for the end of the year including a memorable gala event and concert.
