Eleven contracts to build 5 modern labour residential cities have been signed yesterday between Higher Corporation for Specialized Industrial Zones (ZonesCorp) and a number of national companies, it was announced yesterday.
The total value of the contracts is Dh2.5 billion and the private sector will take major stake.
"The contracts have been signed upon directives from General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces to provide proper living conditions to workers in the UAE ", said Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ZonesCorp.
"ZonesCorp developed a plan to build facilities to accommodate 300000 workers hired by private companies involved in current and future urban development projects in Abu Dhabi", he added.
"The planned projects are is a clear manifestation of the extent of the country's wise leadership's response to the international laws and regulations and to the UAE's overall strategy aimed at improving the lives of workers and providing them with stability and a social context", he stressed.
The contracts were signed by Acting Chief Executive Officer of ZonesCorp Engineer Jaber Hareb Al Khaili. Al Khaili said bids were tendered to construct 3 residential complexes in Abu Dhabi and 2 in Al Ain. Accordingly, Al Rayan Investment Company will be in charge of establishing one residential complex. While Bin Omier Holding Group will construct another one.
"The project is aimed at provide good temporary accommodation for workers who will move to permanent residential cities...and the planned facilities will be ready within 6 months", he added. The project will incorporate marketing, leasing, building maintenance, security, crisis management, cleaning and waste disposal, and landscaping of those residential complexes.
He said old accommodation complexes will be removed to facilitate development at Mohammed bin Zayed City. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
