"The US is quite interested in luring foreign businesses and tourists from the UAE and that is why we have informed our consulate and embassy in the UAE to facilitate the issue of visas and other immigration and travel laws are effective, in addition to ensuring the best security for travellers and businessmen," said US Undersecretary of State for Management Henrietta Holsman-Fore.

The US official made her remarks at a meeting yesterday with Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry - DCCI. The meeting discussed the ways of upgrading economic and commercial ties between Dubai and the US, activating communication between the business communities in both countries and encouraging the lure of UAE businessmen, students and travellers to the US.

Holsman-Fore is heading a high-ranking official delegation including USA Ambassador to the UAE Michele J. Sison and US Consul General in the UAE Paul Sutphin and other American diplomats, businessmen and representatives of American enterprises in Dubai. The meeting also focused on the importance of applying a new mechanism to facilitate the US immigration laws and procedures for the UAE citizens, in addition to discussing other consular related matters.

"Dubai Chamber is always keen to keep playing its key role in highlighting Dubai's economic activities and development through supporting the business community and providing them with various value-added services that help them improve their businesses, enhance their competitiveness to be able to access new global markets and establish new links with their counterparts all over the world," said Al Tayer.

Dubai's non-oil trade with the US reached US$ 6.6 billion in 2005. There are more than 780 American companies working in Dubai, 114 out of which are fully owned by Americans. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
