The Arab Institute in Paris (L'Institut du Monde Arabe) has awarded its Gold medal to HH Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah in recognition of his services in the cause of cultural and intellectual interaction between the Arab and the European worlds. The prestigious award of the Arab Institute is given to kings, rulers and Heads of states for their role in building cultural bridges between the East and West.

The medal was awarded while the Ruler received a visiting delegation from the Institute headed by its Director General Mukhtar Talib bin Diab. Diab lauded the role played by UAE in preserving the national heritage, supporting creativity and cultural thought, and interacting with various cultures of the world, adding that the Ruler of Fujairah has enormously contributed to the strengthening of cultural and intellectual rapport among the nations in the region. He also commented on Fujairah's support to hosting continuous cultural events in the region.

The visiting dignitary briefed the Ruler on the activities of the Arab Institute in enhancing cultural and intellectual relations between the Arab and European worlds.

The Ruler felicitated a cooperation agreement due to be signed between the Arab Institute and the Fujairah Authority for Culture and Information. The agreement will be a milestone in strengthening cultural relations between the UAE and the rest of the world.

The Arab Institute in Paris aims to foster knowledge of Arab world culture by the exchange of information on the arts, sciences and modern technologies. It incorporates some well lit exhibition areas, a museum, library and a 300-seat hall, among other amenities. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
