As part of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority's, TCA Abu Dhabi, cultural programme curated to support the UNESCO theme of, ‘Protecting our Heritage and Fostering Creativity,' Al Ain National Museum's education department will host a programme this month celebrating the history and heritage of the burqa, traditional Emirati accessory for women in the UAE.
To raise awareness of the historical and cultural significance of the burqa in the UAE and in Emirati women's lives, the programme will focus on the burqa collection at the museum, with a children's workshop on March 15th.
Speaking on the occasion, Hind Al Dhaheri, Education Specialist at Al Ain National Museum, said, "This month, at Al Ain National Museum, we chose the burqa as our focal point as it is integral to the history and pride of our nation. As an accessory, it is part of our national dress and plays an important part in the role of female Emirati identity. The variety of shapes and designs of burqas are key in identifying specific tribal origins."
The first workshop will take place on 15th March at Al Ain National Museum, and will be repeated on 31st March. http://wam.ae/en/details/1395302602325
