Agreement signed to bridge cultural divide between Islam and Christianity
posted on 14/02/2008

An agreement to help bridge the cultural divide between Muslims and Christians was signed by the Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage and the Patriarch of Alexandria. The agreement was signed by Juma Al Majid, head of the centre, and Patriarch Theodore II, Eastern Orthodox Pope of Alexandria and all Africa, yesterday. "The cultural bridge between Islam and Christianity has to serve all humanity. Preserving culture and books is a huge responsibility which has to be carried by all," said Juma Al Majid.
The agreement provides for the exchange of printed materials and periodicals between the two bodies. It also states the establishment of a digital photography lab at the Patriarchy in Alexandria by the Juma Al Majid Centre. The Centre will also assist the patriarchy in repairing manuscripts for which the Centre has the necessary equipment. The Patriarch arrived last Tuesday on an invitation from the Juma Al Majid Centre to sign the agreement. The Patriarch said that the Patriarchy's church consists of more than 70.000 books in different areas and subjects, some of which are ancient manuscripts and very old books. – Gulf News
