Advanced water recycling plant inaugurated in RAK

Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud Al Qasimi, son of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, today inaugurated a highly advanced wastewater treatment and recycling plant at the Al Ghail Industrial Park here today.

The water recycling plant incorporates state- of- the- art environment friendly recycling technology and has been set up by the Government of Ras Al Khaimah represented by the Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA), Al Ghurair and Hitachi Plant Technologies, Japan.

The project was funded by the Japanese Government Research and Development Organisation NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation) as a research project for Wastewater Recycling and Treatment in the Emirate.

The project is aimed to design, build, operate and maintain for three years a 2000 cubic metre per day Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) along with 1000 cubic metre per day Reverse Osmosis (RO) Wastewater Recycling and Treatment Plant to recycle waste water for industrial usage as an alternative to scarce potable water in the Al Ghail Industrial Park which is under the RAKIA.

Takeshi Yoshida, Chief Representative of NEDO, said that an investment of US$4.5 million has been made for the construction of the plant and a funding of US$1 million will be made available annually during the three year period for plant operations.

H.E. Kenji Saito, Acting Japanese Consul General in Dubai, Takeshi Shinoda, Secretary General, Global Water Recycling and Reuse Solution Technology Research Association, Japan, heads of RAK government departments and several dignitaries were present on the occasion. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
