Abu Dhabi City Municipality is currently working on the Abu Dhabi city groundwater de-watering project, which serves as a source of scientific and practical information customised to the types of projects and nature of the land in Abu Dhabi city.

The aim of the project is to assist the concerned authorities including consultants, contractors and government entities, especially when it comes to implementing the best techniques to ensure effective and economical implementation of works while observing all safety and security precautions to protect surrounding installations falling within the scope and impact of the de-watering processes.

Commenting on the project, Khalfan Al Nuaimi, Director of Building Permits, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, said, "The Municipality is in constant contact with all concerned bodies to ensure the provision of all necessary elements to put out a quality guide, customised to meet the expectations of the relevant parties and the needs of construction works, be it buildings, villas, infrastructure or other facilities. The Municipality will organise a string of workshops to elaborate the guide and its deliverables as well as its development phases to achieve these objectives." The Guide will also address important aspects regarding soil characteristics and groundwater movement, which are required during the de-watering design phase.

According to him, the guide passes through three development phases. The first phase includes studying and compiling the requirements of stakeholders, the second phase will see the collection of field and laboratory information, while the third phase will utilise additional information to develop the final guide.

The Municipality, he concluded, intends to engage the concerned authorities and stakeholders in identifying the deliverables of the three phases according to the communication plans and information flow that have been developed by the project management team for each participating body. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
